Why is the use of Carbon Fibre good in airplane body construction?

Can anyone tell me please why the use of Composite material, carbon fibre is good in the construction of airplanes, i.e Boeing 787 Dreamliner?

Many Thanks in Advance

Carbon Fibre is lighter than metals used now...which adds to "useful load," thereby saving fuel and adds "payload."
Also, it is stronger than sheet metal and will NOT corrode or fatigue. Corrosion accelerates fatiguing and leads to failure due to stresses imposed, i.e tension, torsion, compression, bending and expansion. Special alloys are used in aluminum to strengthen the original compounds.
Boeing uses a method of building fuselages by preloading outer skins known as "Stressed Skin," unlike other manufactures.
Carbon Fibre is one long continuous spun-glass process for the "Dreamliner" fuselage and stronger than the conventional construction technique. When the aluminum fuselage is struck, it results in dents, creases and puncture damages leading to repairs and repetative inspections. The Carbon Fibre allows a uniform absorbtion and a heavy-blow will bounce off.
Since Boeing is the manufacturer and has engineered this process for their aircraft, they must include strict guidlines for repairs and maintenace of their product. This becomes the criteria for "Certification" of a new product and Boeing must apply to the Federal (F.A.A.) Government for a "Type Certificate" leading to "Airworthiness" approval. Until the T.C. is issued, the craft built are known as proto-types.

Have there been any new advances of stuff to put on the blade of a hockey stick?

I know the best thing to have on it is the puck. I also know that the carbon fiber revolution has changed the game of hockey. Is there a new substance to but on the blade that would or has revolutionized the game more? I see guy in the NHL that do not even tape there sticks please some serius help on this one. I've had guys that used to use surf board wax and swear by it . I tried it and saw no real advantage. I like friction tape. I also like white tape that is rubbed down with a puck.

I use plain old cloth tape.... There are products out there, soft pads, but all they are are things that simulate tape and screw up your blade because they don't protect the bottom like tape does.

Plain old cloth tape works best in my opinion.

check out the tamiya selection and then go to electric buggies but don't get the rising storm, i have one and the front suspension bracket always breaks

I play a motorsports portfolio for real. In 2009 that portfolio improved 74%. Let's not forget the other things that make our industry go around. It's not just OEM's you want in the portfolio, but Dow (makers of kevlar and carbon fiber), Alcoa (makers of aluminum of course), a decent energy stock (Repsol was not one in 2009) and aftermarket accessories like Garmin. Beats keeping the money in a 1% savings account!

yes it is fake but as long as you are just looking to get the look of cf go for it if it looks good but if you are looking for the strength an light weight you will be disappointed shouldn't be a problem for a dash kit. real cf looks like a weave with 2 shades like a checker pattern

They didn't just wrap carbon fiber around an aluminum frame. They bonded some metal parts to the carbon fiber frame. This is not unusual as trying to get carbon fiber to hold threads is not really a good idea.
Even a carbon fiber sailplane will use bits and pieces of metal for attachment points.
All I can say is WOW. That is one sweet looking bike. I wonder how long it will take before someone hacks a carbon fiber motorcycle or scooter?

It says on the box not to replace the biofiber… It contains beneficial bacteria that eats the ammonia and turns it into nitrites.. it then eats the nitrites and turns them into nitrates.. the only way to get rid of the nitrates is to do water changes.. If you need to wash the biofiber then just rinse it off.

The manual does not say to replace the biofiber… it says that for the filter cartridges (the one w/ the blue fiber and carbon inside) but not the biofiber..
