Height Measure

I have a Palm tree in my Yard and Would like to know how to measure the height?

I would guess the tree is between 40 and 60 feet tall and would like a simple way to measure the height(within a few feet) Thanks.

you can measure a distance away from the tree 'd'.
than measure the angle 'a' from the spot d feet from the tree to the top.
tan(a) = h/d
where h is the height.

solving for h:
h = d*tan(a)

Engineering Challenge: Ping Pong Ball Seperator?

A friend of mine who teaches in Ireland gave this problem to several of his Industrial Design students, and some of the results were pretty clever.

Since the pp balls are all the same, you can't separate them by size or any other characteristic. You can't count them.

I'd let them fall on the board, roll down, guided by pieces of board, to a Y intersection. At the Y, they would roll down one path, filling up a pocket. When the pocket has 10 pp balls in it, it blocks the leg of the Y, forcing subsequent balls to take the other path.

Only problem I have is how to suppress the pp balls from bouncing when they fall down and hit the board.

I need good party games!! I am turning 13.?

For my birthday party i need some really good games. I am getting bored with the ones we have around here. Even if the games are gross its okay. I am planning on playing this one game where u bounce the ping pong into a cup then somebody has to drink whatever is in it. And i am in middle school and everybody wants adult games too. We are already playing spin the bottle. So name a good game and HOW TO PLAY IT.

THERES GOING TO BE ABOUT 50 PEOPLE THERE BUT EVERYBODY WONT BE AT THE SAME PLACE BECAUSE I HAVE AN ARCADE IN MY BASEMENT.

Oh the joys of adolescence...

Here are some good party games for people in middle/high school to play:

- Everyone stands in a circle, with an alternating boy girl order. You must have either a business card or a credit card (credit cards for advanced users only!! Much harder!) In any case, you put the card to your lips and create suction. Then you pass it to the next person without using your hands. The next person will take it from you in the same way. If you mess up and drop it, the two people end up kissing!! Makes for many giggles.

- Only a scarf and a bed are necessary. One person is blindfolded and lies on the bed. The other people in the group silently nominate another person to basically grope/tickle/do whatever to the blindfolded person. After maybe two minutes of this, that person stops. The blindfold is taken off, and the person has to guess who was groping them! If they get it wrong, they're in for another round. If they get it right, the two people switch.

-Truth or Dare. Timeless. (it's usually good to start out dare's that involve eating disgusting concoctions of food, and then progressing to more....intimate dares) BTW, it's always good to have something like ketchup or spray chocolate. It's good to lick off of people. Or whatever. I've seen many creative uses for it.

-A fun game that isn't sexual at all is when you have a washable black marker (although I've done it with Sharpie before) and what happens is each person closes their eyes while the rest of the group draws on their face. Very funny. I think my best combination was when I looked like a pirate/clown/tiger.

-Strip poker (at your age I would assume only down to underwear). Normal poker (can be done with variations i.e. Strip Texas Hold 'Em) except that you bet articles of clothing. You pretty just make up the value of stuff on the spot. Socks and shoes are obviously not worth as much as shirts or pants, however.

-Twister is classic. You can either play it normally, or to spice it up a bit, every time a person falls/messes up, they must remove an article of clothing.

These are just some ideas and basic guidelines. You can also buy fun dice from stores like Spencer's Gifts that on one dice it says an action like "Grope," "Kiss," or "Lick" and on the other it says a body part like "Chest," "Lips," or "Face."
